GAELIC SONGS

Miss Russell-Fergusson For

Burns Club

Miss Russell-Fergusson will be the guest of the 'Wellington Burns Club at their annual supper on January 25. 'Referring to Miss Russell-Fergusson, the "Scots Year Book’’ states: "It is with much interest we learn that Miss Russell-Fergusson, our premier exponent of Hebridean songs with clarsach, is to visit New Zealand early in the New Year, Much has been written by critics at home and abroad extolling the value of these unique recitals to keep alive the lore of the Western Isles, and .Miss Fergussou has gained an international reputation as an interpreter of our folk-songs in the simple and genuine manner of their tradition To hear her presentation of these Gaelic songs unaccompanied, as they were in the olden times, is an experience not to be missed. A prominent French critic wrote, after one of her recitals In Brittany, when the honour

of ‘Bardess of the Gorsedd’ was conferred on her, 'ln her programmes we have had the whole life of the people from the cradle to Tir-nan-Og,’ and 1200 people in the audience concurred niianjinously. This forthcoming tour follows Miss . Russell-Fergusson’s recent great success in Africa, and the good wishes of those who love Hebridean songs, will go with her, wherever she may appear.”
