Revisions For Returned
Soldiers
As a result of cases put before the Pensions Appeal Board by the tVel'ington Returned Soldiers’ Association, two of the Successful claimants received over £lOO in arrears, it. was stated at Wednesday’s meeting of the executive of the association.
The association put 3.1 cases before the board, and won 17 of them. Ten were lost, two adjourned, and two not yet finalised. . The auxiliary sub-committee reported that all 12 auxiliary comm'ttecs were workjng steadily ;ind getting very satisfactory results in the matter of employment, while hot neglecting the social'.side of their activities. During the past month a large number of men had been employed in conjunction with the Beautifying Society and the City Council on tree-planting work. " Assistance had been given during the month to 137 applicants, while 22 had been declined. The membership at July 31 was 753, an increase of 58 .Over, that at the corresponding day last year.'
The U.S.A, representative on the Red Cross Society reported that at the instigation of the association it had agreed to restore the issue of tobacco to the men in hospital to the original amount.
Donations were acknowledged as follow :—Mr. P. Hodte, books; Messrs. W. D. and 11. O Wills, tobacco: Busy Bee Club, 8 blankets for feamp; Anonymous, 1 blanket for camp; N.Z. Employers’ Federation, books; “Evening Post,” ■ papers; “The Dominion,” papers; “N.Z. Truth,” papers.
