Direct Representation of Dominion Wanted LABOUR CONFERENCES A decision to ask the Government to include in its delegation to the annual meeting of the assembly of the League of Nations at least one member who will go from New Zealand and return after the meeting iu order that I’arliament imiy be kept more closely in touch with the work and Ideals of the League, was made by the annual conference of the New Zealand League of Nations Union iu Wellington. A remit ou thesIlnes was forwarded by the Canterbury branch. . , . The Rev. J. A. Allan (Christchurch) said expense entered into the question, but there would be no barm In keeping it before the Government. Mr. T. Todd (Gisborne), said many delegates had gone to Geneva hostile to the League, but had been won over U enthusiastic support.
Ratification of Conventions.
Thu following remits dealing with the International Labour Office were adopted : — . , . . “That this conference congratulates rue New Zealand Government on its decision in favour of representation at the International Labour Conference in 1930. and urges that regular full representation ehpuld be provided in future years, inat on the return to New Zealand of the delegation very full publicity be given to the report of the delegation throughout this Dominion; and that a request on these lines be addressed to the New Zealand Government.” (Otago.) “That the conference congratulates the Government on sending, for the second time, a complete delegation to the general conference of the International Labour Office and trusts that the Government will continue the practice; that it further urges the Government to lay all Internationa] Labour Office conventions before Parliament with a view to the ratification of as many as possible." (Auckland.) “That with a view to arranging for ratification of the conventions of the International Labour Conference, the New Zealand. Government be urged to request the appropriate Parliamentary committee to report upon the conventions and the extent to which ratification would sitnte amendment of existing legislation. (Otago.)
