QUICK DECISIONS

' If anyone asked me what 1 considered one of the most valuable assets in almost any sphere of life, I should immediately say that the ability to make quick decisions was almost invaluable, says an English writer. There are so many occasions when we have to make quick decisions (and not only quick ones, but accurate ones) that if we do not already possess this ability we should all do our utmost to cultivate it. If you are one of those to whom a decision is a'thing which is worrying in the extreme, try to train yourself to overcome this by always deciding quickly about the more trivial things. Take the home, for instance; something may go wrong unexpectedly and upset all our plans, and this means that we must make new decisions. Take a good look mentally at the situation before you sum it up in your mind, and make your decision without wavering. You will be surprised how this habit will grow upon you. You will also be surprised to find how much greater your peace of mind .will be in consequence. There are many times in our lives when a quick decision may mean a very great deal to us. or to those directly connected with us. After all. if a thing has to be decided (and we have to decide one way or the other in almost every case) it is far better to have a clean cut, as it were, and make our decision quickly, than to spend hours in misery and indecision wondering just what we had better do. Another point about making decisions is that we do not have to rely upon other people’s advice half as much as when we have not the ability to deride for ourselves. There is a saying that “advice is one of the cheapest things to give,” but it is also a very expensive thing to take sometimes, especially when the person who gives the advice has not been too careful in his or her summing up of the situation! Some women ask advice about everything; about the proposal they have received as well as about the powder they shall use. I always think that the more we can do without asking advice on our own personal affairs the better off we are in the end, for we alone know the whole situation, our own feelings in the matter, and instinct will often prove a far better adviser than any friend.
