HOME SCIENCE ALUMNAE
First Meeting of Year The . Wellington branch of the Home Science Alumnae held its first 1935 meeting recently. Mrs. L. Parr, president, was in the chair and about 20 members welcomed the opportunity of meeting one another again. It was decided to send subscriptions from the branch to help defray the cost of a memorial to the late Colonel John Studholme, who, for his untiring efforts oh behalf of the study of home science in the Dominion, earned the deepest gratitude not only from the 400 young women who have already passed through the home science department, but from tfie many country women who have derived much benefit from the extension service. The Alumnae is giving financial help also to the carrying out of a new idea at the university: that is, one year’s course 06 studies to be taken up by head mistresses of native girls’ schools in India. The first of these Indian women. Miss Saker-I’ine, Calcutta, arrived in New Zealand some weeks ago and is already studying at the home science department. Unemployment in Germany lias increased. In January there were 2.973,000 workless persons; this was 399,000 more than in month. Easter brides! Latest styles for your wedding from Miss Murray, 36 Willis Street, Tel. 46-541.—Advt.
