Silver Wedding Party A delightful party was given by Air. and Mrs. Witt, 7 Tanera Crescent, Brooklyn, at their residence last week • on the occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of their wedding. There . was a large number of friends and relations present, many of them having travelled from the Wairarapa. Games and competitions were played until supper, which was served in Airs. Witt’s studio. The studio was decorated with pink streamers and pink roses, and above the central table hung a silver wedding bell. After supper had been served, Air. C. Alclntyre proposed the toast of the host and hostess. He remarked on the large gathering of friends, which showed the warm esteem in which Mr. and Airs. Witt were held, and he hoped that their years to come would hald as much happiness for them as had the past 25 years. Air. Witt, On behalf of his wife and himself, thanked his guests for the beautiful presents which they had received. Among those present were Air. and Airs. AV. 8. Vocal Recital The audience at the vocal recital presented by Aliss Vera Aloginie in the Repertory Theatre rooms last night heard a delightful contrast of the works of modern and earlier composers. Miss Aloginie was-assisted by Aliss Shirley Craif, a talented 12-year-old pianist, and Air. L. A. C. AVarner, violinist. The programme was as follows: — An operatic aria, Batte Batte (Aiozart), by Aliss Aloginie; a pianoforte solo, Bach’s French Suite in G, Shirley Craig; a bracket of three songs, “Aly Lovely Celia” (AVilson), -“There’s Not a Swain on the Plain” (Purcell) and “The AVhite Birch” (Alma Gootley), Aliss Aloginie; violin solo, 2nd ..movement of the AVieniawskl Concerto, Air. AVarner ; soprano solo, “Lament of Isis’” (Bantoch), Aliss Aloginie; operatic aria, “Elsa’s Dream,” from Lohengrin (AVagner), Aliss Aloginie; violin solo, “Ava Maria” (Schubert AVilhelmj), Air. Birthday Party Miss Marie Boyd was the guest of honour at a morning tea party at the D. 1.0. tearooms given by her mother, Mrs. H. Tracy, on the occasion of her twenty-first birthday. The table was arranged with dahlias and Miss Boyd was presented with a bouquet of begonias from the guests, who were: Mesdames Selway, J. Duffy, M. PerryJ C.yJ. Simpson, Misses K. Bowman, B. Cropp. A Farewell Party Mrs. Gordon Forbes’s home in Burnell Avenue was crowded with guests yesterday afternoon, when she entertained a number of friends to say au revoir to Mrs. 11. 11. Bown, who will leave for England to-day. The tea table in the dining-room was artistically arranged with trails of vivid Virginia creeper, and a large central floating bowl with a marble figure surrounded with huge dahlias in tones of pink and deep rose. In the drawing-room autumn leaves and flowers were arranged to show their lovely rusty tones to the best advantage. The hostess received in a gown of rose cendre crepe de, chine, with yoke and inset panels of matching lace, and Mrs. Bown wore black satin and ecru lace. Among the guests were: Madame Tarbayefi’, Madame Merlin, Madame Benge and Madame Flebotte; Mesdames J. G. Coates, Malfroy, F. P. Wilson, Atkins, Ferguson, Bakewell, J. Payne, H. Hardcastle, Kettle, Bassant, B. Page, Kane, Spidy, Hoffman, Tennant, Bulte, Barnett, Harris, East, Penney, Norwood-, C. Davies, Leckie, Bradley, Entrican, Fotheringham, Thorpe, Hartman, I. G. Itobertson; Misses Malfroy, Davis, Kettle, Spidy, Urban, Carr, Grant, Moppett, Norwood. Combined Party Friends of Miss Betty Whileman and Miss Nan McLaughlin held a most enjoyable party at the Brown Owl Cabaret, on Saturday evening to celebrate the former’s birthday and to farewell the latter, who left Wellington by the Wanganella to live at Melbourne.

B.M.S. PIANO GROUP A la_rge number of members and their friends were present on Tuesday evening when the nlano group of the British Music Society held the first of its. monthly meetings for the 1935 season in the studio of Miss Lorna Black. An interesting and enjoyable gramophone recital of miscdilaneous Chopin recordings was given by Mr. Karl Atkinson. leader of the group, who also read an article written by Wanda Landowska, the eminent harpsichord ist, dealing with the interpretation of this composer’s works. Mr. W. Page, president of the society, was also present. and spoke of the aims and ideals of the society and the music-making groups.
