Staff Member Farewelled
The management and staff of the D.1.C., Wanganui, met recently to bid farewell to Miss Jean Urquhart, who has been buyer for the hose and glove department for many years. Mr. Thomson, manager, spoke of her long and faithful service to the firm, eulogising her qualities of cheer and helpfulness to other members of the staff and pleasing personality which endeared her to staff and customers alike.
Mr. Thomson asked Miss Urquhart to accept from the management, as a token of their regard, a handsomelyfurnished dressing case. Mr. Harris spoke on behalf of the staff, endorsing Mr. Thomson’s remarks and asked her acceptance of a
travelling rug. Miss Urquhart feelingly acknowledged the gifts and expressed regret at severing her connection with the firm. Miss Urquhart was also farewelled by the buyers. Afternoon Party A pleasant afternoon party in aid of the Home of Compassion was given by Mrs. F. N. Norling at her residence, Kelburn Parade, on Tuesday. Donations were sent by Mesdames Gibbs, C. Todd, Bolton, Scheele, Coffin, A. Ward, Elleray, J. J. Welply, Callaghan, C. Hlckmott, Misses Tiller and Esme Smith. Enjoyable musical items were rendered by Airs. A. Compraini and Aliss Katarina Barnao. Among those present were: Mesdames Gibbs, Cartwright. Giles, Bolton, Wright, Elleray, Ryan, Collin, C. Iliekmott, AlcKeowen. Fitzgerald, Misses Esme Smith, Appelby, Elleray, Bolton, K. Barnao and AleMahon. A delightful afternoon tea was served, during which Airs. Norling, on behalf of the Sisters of Compassion, thanked everyone who helped to make the party suc'h a success. Welcome at Nurses’ Club An afternoon in honour of Aliss Al. Davies, Alelbourne, was given yesterday at the Nurses’ Club. Aliss Bicknell, president of the Nurses’ Council, welcomed Aliss Davies, giving her the freedom of the Nurses’ Club. Other speakers were Drs. Agnes Bennett, T. F. Corkill and T. L. Paget, and Aliss Lambie, who mentioned that by the arrival of Aliss Davies from the Women’s Hospital, Alolbourne, to take up duties at St. Helens Hospital, Wellington ,the Obstetrical Society had seen the commencement of a system of exchange of trained nurses which it originated and which would be of great advantage to nurses and to hospitals of both countries. Aliss J. Coombe, Wanganui, returned to Wellington by the Alonowai, after spending some weeks in Australia.
