New Shaw, Savill Vessel London, May 1. The Waiwera, tlie first of the Shaw. Savill ami Albion Company’s new motor-ships, has been launched. The Waiwera is the first of tlie three motor-cargo liners being built for tlie Shaw, Savill Company i>y Harland and Wolff. Over 500 feet in length, the IViiiwera has a deadweight capacity of about 12,000 tons, and refrigerated space totalling approximately 500,000 cubic feet. I lie will be propelled by two sets of Har-land-B. & W. single-acting, four-stroke cycle, airless-injection, pressure charged oil engines which will give her a service speed of over 16 knots. Accommodation for 12 passengers in single-berth cabins is provided on tlie promenade deck. Tlie second ship, tlie Waipnwa. should be launched early next month, and the third, tlie Wairnngi, early in 19.15. The new Waiwera is the second ship to bear that name in the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s fleet. The first Waiwera was a single-screw steamer of 6237 tons gross register and 425 feet in length, built by Denny's at Dumbarton in 1899. Slip took the first contingent of New Zealand troops to South Africa. She survived the Great War and was sold out of tlie company's fleet some years ago. Tlie Commonwealth and Dominion Line have two motor-cargo liners of about 8800 tons gross under construction, while the Tort Chalmers, tlie first of file eleven new vessels ordered for flip New Zealand trade to be completed, is now en route Io London with her first cargo of New Zealand produce. Two 12.000 ton deadweight motor-liners, the Durham and Dorset. ordered by the Federal Company, arc under construction at 'Workman. Clark’s Belfast yards, while three, the New Zealand Star. Australia Star and Imperial Star, which are practically sister ships to the Shnw. Savill vessels, are being built bv Harland and Wolff for the Blue Star Line.
