WOMEN’S ACTIVITIES IN WELFARE WORK

Citizens’ Day Nursery Lady Luke presided over members of the Citizens’ Day Nursery last week, when many matters of interest to the society were discussed. Leave of absence was granted Airs. Addison, who has left for England, and to Airs. F. T. Clarke, who expects to leave shortly on an overseas trip. Airs. Frazer was appointed chairwoman of the house committee. During the month Miss Wilson, of the Free Kindergarten, and a party of students visited the nursery to see its inner workings. The matron was congratulated upon her excellent and economical management, grocery, light, milk, meat, and fuel for the month coming to well under £lO. The number of children is on the increase, and on many days the small staff is taxed to the full extent of its powers. Arrangements for a bridge party, to be held in Alay, are well in hand, full details of which will be advertised shortly. The following gifts are gratefully acknowledged:—N.Z. Trawling Co., fish; Air. Rod. bones; Air. Rowell, cakes; Airs. Greville, meat; Aliss Sheppard, rice; Airs. Alurphy, papers and apples; 'Airs. Elliott, jam and sauce; Airs. Clarke, jam and prunes; Airs. Young, £l/1/- each.
