BEAUTY HINTS

Repairing Summer’s Havoc Autumn /lays call for special beauty ■treatments'; for in many ways holidays and days in the open air have taken their toll of beauty. For those who have not been too careless these treatments will not be so necessary or so elaborate, but however great the care, skin and hair are bound to have suffered a little, says an expert. Enthusiastic swimmers and fresh ■air fiends will probably find their hair dry and their skin more than usually burned up. On the other hand, some hair becomes greasy and out of condition during the autumn weather. There is a new oil treatment which is both soothing to the scalp and beautifying to the hair. It must be given at the hairdressers, but it has the great advantage of being procurable in various types of oil. There is a medication treatment planned particularly for sufferers from dandruff and those whose hair is falling out. There is another treatment for permanent and natural waves; one for hair that has become dry and brittle, another which makes over-oily hair soft and fluffy. Those who do not wish for the expense of a treatment at the hairdresser’s may prescribe olive oil for dry and brittle hair, rubbing it well into the scalp and soaking well the brittle ends; with a green soap shampoo or egg shampoo with a camomile rinse for the fair hair, and a lemon rinse for the dark hair. It is often necessary after a generous application of oil to put either lemon or vinegar in the rinsing water, since only acid will remove the last trace of oil. The oil should lie allowed to soak into the scalp for a few hours before the shampoo or even left in all night. There is an excellent olive oil soap on the market, which is good for complexion and hair alike, particularly in cases where skins and scalps need nourishment. One cake affords many shampoos. Lashes are other sufferers from sun and wind. The life of a lash is six weeks, but in summer they are sometimes even more short-lived, particularly if they are not encouraged with a lubricant. Oil. olive or coconut, may be applied to the roots with finger or brush. White vaseline is also good, and there are various very reliable Josh growers on the market now which can be obtained inexpensively. The use of a tiny eyelash brush is advisable. for the little massage involved is stimulating and by brushing upward a wide-eyed look and an upward tilt to the lashes are encouraged. If line lines have appeared on the face through an overdose of sun the use of a good wrinkle oil is helpful. Blemishes may be removed with a clearing lotion and the original milk ami roses may be restored by the use of a bleaching face masque. If. however, you wish for a home treatment a very beneficial face packmay be made with rose-water and prepared oatmeal. Mix the two to a fine paste, spread on I he face, allow to dry. and leave on for twenty minutes or half an hour. Then remove with wads of cotton-wool soaked in water to which more rose-water has been added. DON’T MISS THIS! Carter’s, Cuba Street, are “getting out.” and the great Clearance Sale is now on. Everything must be sold, so here’s your chance for genuine bargains. Soon we will remove to new premises, but at present—out go the stocks.—Advt.
