The King Opens New School

Rugby, December 12. The King, accompanied by the Queen, to-day opened the new medical school at St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington. The building, which cost £250,000, will rank as one of the first schools of medical research in Britain. His Majesty, in a speech, said that he felt special Interest in revisiting St. Mary’s since many years ago the skill and care of a nurse from that hospital contributed largely to his recovery from an attack of typhoid fever. The King referred to tireless efforts of the devoted research workers who were forever wresting fresh secrets from nature and adding to existing knowledge in many different fields. Dissemination of this knowledge was no less important for the people’s health depended in a great measure on the training which medical schools were able to provide for the doctors of tomorrow.
