STRONG GOLF TEAM
Americans May Visit
Australia
(Received December 15, 5.5 p.m.). New York, December 14.
A message from St. Petersburg, Florida, states that negotiations are in train to have the American Professional Golf Association send a team to Australia to participate in the Centenary Open Tournament and in a team match against Australians. The position depends at present on satisfactory financial arrangements.
Terms have been communicated to Australia, but there has not been time to receive an answer yet. If dates are arranged so that Americans could leave in the middle of October and return to America on January 1, 1935, it is very likely that from eight to ten players will make the trip. Many leading golfers, including Kirkwood, are all interested. The matter has been discussed with Horton Smith, Paul Runyan, Walter Hagen, Wiffy Cox, Leo Diegel, Johnny Farrel, and Al Espinosa.
