“DUMPING” DOMINION PRODUCTS

Further British Complaints STATEMENT OF MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE (Received December 13, 7 p.m.) London, December 13. The “Daily Telegraph” says the Minister of Agriculture, Major Walter E. Elliot, is consulting the Dominion Governments "regarding the dumping of Dominion products in breach of the Ottawa Agreements, of which British agriculturists are complaining.” Major Elliot revealed the fact that these negotiations are in progress to a private meeting of the Conservative Agriculture Committee in the House of Commons to-night. Meat and milk producers are particularly affected. It was stated at the meeting that New Zealand butter was selling in Britain at 7d a pound, while the price in New Zealand was 1/3. Major Elliot admitted * that . the wholesale price of beef was still far below remunerative’ levels, but he hoped shortly to arrive at new voluntary arrangements which would ease the position. The meeting appointed a committee to report on meat imports. Butter is being retailed in Wellington to-day as low as 7d. a pound. The price has been under 1/- for some months past. MR. FORBES’S COMMENT “We have not heard anything of this,” replied the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, when his attention was drawn to the statement that Major Elliot was reported to be consulting with the Dominion Governments regarding the dumping of Dominion products in breach of the spirit of Ottawa and other agreements. IMPERIAL TRADE UNITY (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, December 12. When asked in the House of Commons to-day whether he would consider establishing an independent trade body under the chairmanship of a British Minister to undertake the development of Imperial trade unity, the 1 rime Minister (Mr. MacDonald) replied that the Government was always ready in consultation with other members of the British Commonwealth to consider means for the development of interImperial trade relations. It had noted in that connection the suggestion recently made by the High Commissioner for Australia, Mr. Stanley Bruce.
