Wellington Fire Engine VISIT TO AUCKLAND Dominion Special Service. Auckland, November 7. The fine new lire engine recently purchased by the Wellington Fire Board was given a demonstration in Auckland after having been driven from Wellington. The machine, which was designed especially to suit Dominion conditions, is at present undergoing reliability trials, and will be delivered to the M ellington board after visiting a number of provincial centres. Tests were carried out in the presence of Mr. , It. GirlingButcher, Inspector of Fire Brigades, members of the Metropolitan Fire Board, insurance representatives, and members of all county fire boards in the Auckland province, and a large number of local firemen. One pf the most interesting tests was conducted at the-site of the proposed new lire station at the corner of Great South Road and Jubilee Road, Ellerslie. Manned by a crew from the Auckland Fire Brigade, the new engine answered a mock alarm of lire which was supposed to have been given at the municipal abattoirs, at Westfield. With the utmost expedition the machine was run out, manned, and dispatched to the scene of the imaginary lire. A distance of approximately 24 miles was travelled in 4 minutes 6 seconds. On arrival at the abattoirs an impressive demonstration was given of the speed and efficiency with which leads of hose can be brought into action. To-morrow the machine will visit Te Aroha. It will afterward be taken to Te Awamutu and other towns on the return trip to Wellington.
