Reduction in Freights Thought Too Small OVERSEAS MEAT EXPORTS Freezing companies throughout the Dominion are extremely disappointed that greater reductions have not been made in freight rates for freezing works exports, according to a statement made bv Mr. C. G. Wilkin, secretary of tlie South Island Freezing Companies Association. , He stated yesterday that the reductions which had been made represented only 5 per cent, on present rates. Representations had been made with a view to substantial reductions, and the freezing companies were disappointed that their requests had net been more adequately met. As evidencing that freight rates were capable of being reduced substantially, he pointed out that recently wheat had been loaded in the Dominion for London at 20/- per ton. The following statement shows the actual reduction and present freight rates on freezing works’ general cargo New Zealand to London compared with the rates obtaining from Argentine ports to London for the same class of produce, making allowance for primages:— Iteduc- Argentine
