CHANGE IN PARIS SHOPS
The “one-price” store system is rapidly conquering Paris, At first one or two shops started advertising “Nothing over 10 francs” (half a crown) in the suburbs. The Parisian, who is a far more conservative buyer than is generally imagined, took little notice of them for some time. But after the shops had been in existence for two or three years they had become thriving institutions. The great Paris stores then took up the scheme. It is only this year, however, that the “one-price” idea has conquered the fashionable shopping centres. It has taken the Champs Elysees by storm. Where only a year ago one could buy nothing at a price below about 100 francs, he will see a large modern building advertising all its goods at under 10 francs. The fashion shops along the Champs Elysees. which used to consider it beneath their dignity to advertise the prices of their dresses, have also made concessions to the idea. In their windows are large oval notices bearing price figures.
