ARCHAEOLOGICAL MYSTERY.
The discovery in Belgrade recently of a building on the shore of Lake Ochrid is expected to provide the key to what has Iqng been an archaeological mystery. Rich graves containing bodies wearing gold masks of Mycenean type, and even gold gloves, accompanied by a wealth of Greek bronzes and other treasures, were accidentally discovered there by the Bulgarians during operations in 1918. Excavations conducted subsequently by Professor Voulitch, of Belgrade University, have revealed the contents of many more magnificent tombs, but so far failed to throw light on the question of their origin. The graves point to a degree of Greek penetration to the north which had not been suspected previous to their discovery, and they have also given rise to many difficult problems relative to their dating which further excavations in the city will no doubt eventually solve. The newly-unearthed building is of brick, and contains a bath and a large hot-air chamber.
