PIONEER CLUB
Women’s Institute Circle
There was a large gathering of both club and institute members at the monthly meeting of the AV.I. Circle at the Pioneer Club last Friday, all having assembled to meet Airs. H. Paterson, president of the New Zealand Federation of AVomen’s Institutes, who was the guest of honour. Visitors were present from Belmont, Obariu, Stokes Valley, Upper Hutt, AVainui-o-mata, Plimmerton, and Silverstream institutes, and one visitor from as far away as Dargaville. Aliss A. Kane welcomed Airs. Paterson and presented her with a sheaf of tulips. In responding, Airs. Paterson said how much she enjoyed meeting members of the different institutes. She spoke of the high ideals of the institute movement, and said it was particularly gratifying to find town and country cooperating. Paterson expressed the hope that such co-operation would be extended. The entertainment for the afternoon consisted of the presentation of a oneact play, “The Bride,” given by the Belmont Institute. Those taking part were Airs. Bennett, Airs. Aloran, Airs. Smith, Airs. Spence, Airs. Tate, and Aliss AVilson. Aluch appreciation was expressed of the performance. Afterward tea was served by the circle committee, and those present had an opportunity of meeting Airs. Paterson personally.
