OBITUARY

Mr. R. G. Speirs By Telegraph.—Press Association.

Invercargill, October 11

An Invercargill Press Association message reports that the death occurred suddenly yesterday of one of Invercargill’s best known business men, Mr. Richard Gardner Speirs, who had carried on business as a plumber and tinsmith for 53 years.

■ He was born at Paisley, Scotland, and landed at Dunedin with his parents in 1862. He was a keen bowler and angler and, as a young man, a prominent cyclist.
