DUNCAN THE CHAMPION
Melbourne Inman came ashore from the Wauganella shortly after 9 o’clock last night, and went on to see the finish of the Wellington inter-club amateur billiards championship final, which was being played at Billiards Ltd.’s showroom. He had a hearty welcome from the 201* spectators.
At the request of Mr. F. W. Vosseler, manager of Billiards Ltd., Mr. Inman presented Hie gold medal to tlie winner of the championship, Mr, Angus Duncan (Y.M.C.A.), Hie shield to Mr. H, Eaton, a director of the Y.M.C.A., the set of bails to Mr. S. M. G. Simpson (G.P.O. Social Club) as runner-up, and a cue to Mr. H. Petersen (Cairo Club), as the maker of the biggest break during the championship outside,the finalists. The championship was not productive of such a good final as in past years. Simpson appeared to be suffering from nerves, and several times broke down at easy strokes. He did not play nearly so well as in the semi-final. Duncan
did not make such good breaks as in previous championship events, but be scored solidly and soon had a good lead, which he retained all the way. The final score was: Angus Duncan (Y.M.C.A.), 500; S. M. G. Simpson (G.P.0.), 294. Duncan’s best, breaks were 21, 27, 29, 24, 43, 24, 37, 39, and 33 unfinished. Simpson. 45, 27, 21. Mr. Duncan expressed the appreciation of the competitors at the excellent conditions which had been provided for the championship by Billiards Ltd.
