. z Ericsson Teams Shield x ’ KEEN COMPETITION Keen competition was seen on Saturday between the five teams competing in a 22-mile time trial contest,_ the first race for the Ericsson Teams Shield. This trophy was donated to the Poneke Cycling Club by Mr. R. Ericssdn, winner of the Palmerston North to Wellington road race in 1931. The course was two circuits of the Breaker Bay cutting route. ■ The teams were dispatched at intervals of five minutes, in the/ following order;. C. Ericsson’s, K. Nankervill’s, F. Blackett’s, R. Ulmer’s and G. Puniti's. At tbe finish of the first circuit Nankervill’s team, 31min. 36sec., were leading from Blackett’s, 31min. 40sec„ followed by Ericsson’s, Puniti’s and Ulmer’s teams. - The teams finished in the following order, Blackett . been, unfortunate in puncturing a tire, thus losing valuable time:— ■ C. Iffricsson’s’ team (Ericsson, Udall, Mitchell, Gatland and McKny), Ihour smin. 25sec, 1. : ■- Ulmer’s team (Ulmer, Houston, Bqlton, Bailley and Aldridge), Ihr. smin. 45 1-5 sec., 2. G. Puniti’s team (Puniti, King, Hurcombe, Thomas and Percival), Ihr. 6min. 13 l-sscc., 3. Nankervill’s team, (Nankervill, J. Puniti, Flett, Sparkes and Parkin), Ihr. 10 min. 46 2-ssec., 4; Blackett’s team (Blackett, MuWtolland, Lasky, Evans and McCabe), Ihr. lltnin. Isec., 5. ■ Prior to the teams’ race 23 riders took part in a IOJ mile handicap, race, members from the Port Nicholson and Hiitt Valley Clubs also' competing by invitation. J, Nettleton won from A. McHardy, with R. Robson third. A great race for time took place between a representative scratch bunch consisting of O. Disley, P. N. Robinson (Port Nicholson), G. Staverley mid T. Roe (Hutt Valley). ■ L. Roberts, scr., (TTult Valley) punctured. The final time and placings are as follow :— • J. Nettleton (6min.), 33min. 13 2-5 sec., 1. A. McHardy (7mln.), 34min. 15 3-5 sec., 2.
