DAMAGE BY FLOOD

Taranaki Repair Work Dominion Special Service. 4 Stratford, June 12. The district engineer of the Public Works Department has been authorised to repair flood damage on Mangaehu, Mangaehu North,- Whangamomona Valley, Porter’s and Ross Roads in the tVhangamoniona county. This advice has been received by hjr. W. J. Polson, M.P., in reply to representations made by him to the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. J. Bitchener). The work will be reserved for married men. The Whnngamomonn County Council will find £BO and the Unemployment Board will provide a subsidy of £l/15/- per man per week. The balance of the cost will be borne by the Public Works Department. In connection with the flood damage experienced in the Stratford county, the Minister has advised that the district en-_ gineer is similarly authorised in respect of repa'rs to Puteoro, Mangawhaka, Kiore, Mntau. Mangaoapa, and Puniwhakau Roads. Married men will be employed, and the same rate of subsidy from the Unemployment Board will apply. ‘lt is not proposed to provide any Government money to repair the damage on Taurakawa Road, as the Minister deems _ there arc no resident settlers along it.
