WEEK-END ON EGMONT

Many Visitors Attracted CONDITIONS PERFECT Dominion Special Service. Netv Plymouth, June 12.Splendid visibility and the recent heavy falls of. snow were conditions which attracted many people to Mount Egmont in the week-end. Climbers on the eastern slopes in the vicinity of the Manganui Gorge were filmed with a cinematograph camera yesterday, while speeding on skis or rushing through the snow on toboggans yesterday afternoon. Fully 100 visitors, many of whom came from New Plymouth and Hawera, assembled at the Stratford resort and over 60 climbed to the skiing ground. Thirty-five members of the Stratford Mountain Club spent the day near the Manganui Gorge on what was really* the first mountain outing of the season. There the snow was in excellent condition for winter sports. Thirty-seven cars and two large buses took their quota to North Egmont yesterday. Five Taranaki Alpine Club members reached the summit, where several Mount Egmont Alpine Club members were encountered. Skiing was enjoyed at several places. The visibility was the best for many years, and splendid views were obtained from the summit T' ? coastline was clearly visible to nortn of White Cliffs, and many points seldom viewed were seen with ease., A foot of snow covered the ski track a mile from Dawson Falls. A large crowd enjoyed snow sports. Mount Egmont Alpine Club members climbed to the summit and made other trips.
