Shipments from the Dominion LARGE INCREASE RECORDED New Zealand shipments of butter and cheese to overseas markets since the start of the current export season on August 1 last reveal a considerable increase when compared with those for the corresponding period of thp preceding year Statistics compiled by the Dairy Produce Board show that the shipments of butter from the Dominion during the month ot December amounted to 10,787 tons, as compared with 10.758 (luring the corresponding month of 1931. lor the fiv months of the season, August 1 to December 31, 1932, the exports totalled 51,925 tons, as against 42,.)10 tons lot the corresponding five months ot Idol an increase of 9415 tons. Cheese shipments for the month of December totalled 9387 tons, as compared with 9266 tons for December, 1931, while the exports for the August-December nnriod (both months inclusive) were 726 tons, as against 29,247 tons in 1931 —an increase of 4479 tons. The destinations ot shipments of butler and cheese from August 1 to December 31, 1932 and 1931, are as follow:—

Shipments from Australia to the United Kingdom last month totalled 12,111 tons of butter and 867 tons of cheese as against 12 494 tons of butter and 432 tons ot cheese in December, 1931. For the five months ended December shipments totalled 48,055 tons of butter and 2437 tons of cheese, as compared with 39,219 tons of butter and 1400 tons of cheese for the August-December period of 1931. At the. start of the present season Australia announced its intention of holding back 20 per cent, of its exportable surplus of butter with the object of regulating shipments. Such a policy has been pursued by the New Zealand Dairy Control Board for some time past, although it had not previously been attempted by Australia. Dairying production in Australia was heavy at the start of the current season, but recent drought conditions have’ seriously affected the output of dairy produce. Latest advice received bv the Dairy Board is to the effect that Australia!intends to no longer regulate shipments this season, but to export produce as it becomes available. P ' From the Argentine 2465 tons of butter were sent to thp United Kingdom in December and for the August-December period shipments totalled 5700 tons. In 1931 2112 tons were sent to Britain in December and the tonnage for the Aug-ust-December period of 1931 amounted to 72 The position of stocks of dairy produce as nt January 1, 1933, is ns follows :—
