Pioneer Club Evening
There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Music Circle of the Pioneer Club held the other evening. The clubroom was tastefully decorated with bowls of Iceland poppies. An excellent programme litid been arranged by Mr. and Mrs. 11. H. Tombs, and was presented as follows: —String quartet in E flat (Mozart), Mr. and Mrs. 11. H. Tombs, Miss Gwen Sealey, Mr. E. T. Simpson; songs, “Secrecy” (Hugo Wolf), “Morning Hymn’.’ (Henchell), Miss E. Kimble, accompanied by Mrs. A. Sewell; string quartet, second movement (Tschaikowsky), Str. and Sirs. 11. H. Tombs, Miss Gwen Sealey, Mr. E. T. Simpson; songs, “In tbe Silent Night.” “Lilacs” (Rachmaninoff), “The Dawn has a Song” (M, Phillips), Miss E. Kimble; piano quintet, : movement' of V. Novak, Mr. and Mrs. H. H.' Totnbs, Mrs. A. Sewell, Miss' Sealey, and Air. Simpsou. The last-mentioned number, by a very modern Czechoslovakian composer, appealed to the audience very much and had to be repeated. Mrs. Ginn (chairwoman of the Music Circle) presided, and thanked Mr. and Mrs. Tombs and the other performers for the splendid programme they had provided. Supper concluded a very pleasant evening.
