NAPIER’S PROGRESS

<£20.000 Drapery Store BLYTHE’S NEW BUILDING Dominion Special Service. Napier, August 11. Among, the most important works under way in the permanent reconstruction of the Napier business area is the new block of buildings for Messrs. Blythe’s Ltd. Possessing the twin • features of value and attractiveness, the neiv drapery establishment will be a distinct asset to the town. The building, which will cost over £20,000. may be divided into three sections —-one, facing Emerson Street, on a section owned by the company; a second on an adjoining section owned by Messs. R. Holt and Sons; and a third facing on Hastings Street, to be provided by the reconditioning of the premises, on that thoroughfare occupied by the firm before the earthquake. . Convenience has been aimed at in designing the arrangement of the main inti rior shopping space, and, when completed, Messrs. Blythe’s new premises should be an achievement in store layout. It has been possible to accommodate all selling departments on one floor at ground level, and to this feature will be added the fact that the most up-to-date methods will be adopted for the equipment of each department with modern fixtures and fittings. Facilities for displays on an extensive scale are provided .by the spacious front which has been designed for the building, while other appointments have been conceived with a view to creating an atmosphere of the greatest possible convenience for shoppers. The showroom departments—such as the mantles, millinery, underclothing, corsets and children’s outfitting—will be provided with ample space for the creation of attractive displays. Private fitting-rooms and a retiring room adjacent to ladies’ departments will add to the general convenience provided. A separate entrance will give, access to the men’s juveniles’ outfitting ■departments, which will actually constitute a self-contained shop. ■

Miss A. Black, of Wellington, is the guest of Mrs. Malcolm McLeod, Martinborough.
