HOCKEY TOURISTS
New Zealanders Win Again STRONG TEAM OVERCOME (Rec. August 11, 9.55 p.m.) Sydney, August 11. The New Zealand hockey team played a strong West Australian team in the carnival competition to-day in ideal weather. The Westralians were expected >to provide considerable opposition, as they possess a great forward line. The New Zealand backs, however, were too sound to enable them to break through. Spiers played brilliantly and repulsed many dangerous attacks. Munro, at centre half, fed the New Zealand forwards splendidly and great shortcorner hitting was done by Anthony, two of which found the net. Reid, who was playing with stitches over one eye, was clever. Joblin, playing left half, opened New Zealand’s score with a flick shot. Bay netted shortly after from a scramble in front. Thompson (West Australia) tricked Moore nicely to score the only goal for his side. The game was fast and fairly even and New Zealand wag held to a low score. Their average for the tour is now 98 goals to eleven against. They tried hard to-day to get two more to complete the century, but the Westraliau opposition was too sound. The final score was: New Zealand 4, West Australia 1. Queensland won the Noall Shield at the carnival, going through undefeated. To-day they beat Victoria by 5 to 2.
