Alleged Duty Evasion ARREST IN SYDNEY “George Washington’s” Parcels By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. (Rec. August 11, 9.35 p.m.) Sydney, August 11. Percy Wince, aged 36, a ship’s stew* ard, was before the City Court today on a provisional warrant from New Zealand charged with being concerned in the fraudulent evasion or attempted evasion of duty on the export of 207 sovereigns and 219 halfsovereigns from New Zealand. Detective Baker said that when he arrested Wince after the arrival of the Niagara in July the latter said he had no idea of the contents of parcels which were in his possession. They had been given to him by a man named George Washington in a Wellington hotel to deliver to persons here who were to meet him in his cabin. Detective-Sergeant Tricklebank, of Wellington, asked the court to order Wince’s return to New Zealand in his custody, and the magistrate complied with the request.
