SCHOOL COMMITTEES
Elections on Monday ADVICE TO PARENTS School committee annual meetings will be held in every district on Monday evening. These provide the opportunity for parents and householders to voice their opinions on questions relating to primary education. "It. is desirable that sentiments expressed. and conclusions formed, should be representative, and not based on the emotionalism of the few enthusiasts as against the reason and common sense of the whole community, 1 ’ states a circular. which draws attention to the meetings.
In these times, especially, it is contended. every responsible parent should pay particular attention to the interests of his child, and the community.
CHANGES AT HATAITAI
Protest is Made A slrong protest against the system that, lias brought about recent frequent changes of teachers in the Hataitai .School is voiced in the annual report of the school committee which will be presented at the annual meeting on Monday evening. It is stated that a reply made by the Minister of Education. Hon. R. Masters, to the committee’s representations on this subject was “purely evasive.” The report expresses regret at withdrawals from the school during the year, and urges parents to send their children every day they can to keep up the average attendance on which the stalling is based. The report of the headmaster, Mr. E. Wallis, in referring to the proposed increase in the minimum school age, states: “It is liojied that parents will use every power they possess to avoid the retrograde step of denying proper stiliervised activity for a child of the crucial and vital ago of five to six, such as obtainable only at a properly-organ-ised school.”
