BOASTING AND COURAGE

Beneath the old. crumbling wall two kittens were basking in the early morning sunshine, and chatting confidentially together. “Yes,” said one. "I may be small; but look how strong I am. Why, just yesterday I buffeted Fluffy over while we were romping! lam sure I could do more if I tried.” “But, perhaps, Fluffy tripped,” protested the other. "Oh, no,” w-as the reply, “if he came now' I know- I could do it again, even though he is ever so much bigger than I.” "He is only a kitten, though,-’ objected the second kitten, “what about that horrid, cheeky pup on the other side of the garden. Could you stand un to it?” “Of course,” boasted the first, “next time he comes around here YOU may go and- hide while I send him about his business.”

Just then a scuffling was heard and a small, black nose was poked through a bush, followed by the head of a small black pup, that after a struggle forced himself through to the kittens’ side. At the first announcement of the intruder, the two balls of fluff set about putting as much distance as possible between themselves ami the puppy, Who calmly curled itself up in the sunny spot, saying, “H’m. that’ll teach the kitten not to boast so much. Perhaps next time she might take care as to where she speaks so boastfully.” —Sent by Doris Court, Woodville.

A man went to a village concert one night, and while a duet, was being sung he said to his friend, “They must be in a hurry. They are having two at a time, now.”
