BURIED MONEY
Box Found by Roadside £2158 THEFT FROM SAFE Public Works Wages By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, September 4. The discovery of a buried box containing a considerable portion of the £2158 stolen on May 5 from the. Public Works Department’s office at its base camp at Murupara, 42 miles south of Rotorua, was made by a Maori road-worker at Murupara late this afternoon. The box was found buried among scrub alongside the Wairarapakau Road, about 500 yards from the camp where tne money was stolen. Pay envelopes were sticking out of a corner of the box, which was covered only by light layers of earth. It has been definitely learned that the money was part of the stolen funds, but the amount found is not known. The money was stolen from the safe ol the paymaster. It consisted of wages for about 400 men employed on the road. A reward of £2OO was offered for its recovery. '
