The volunteer movement at Stratford lias needed little encouragement, and has so grown that the strength of the machinegun platoon has been Increased by the nddltlon of a cadet machine-gun and Lewis gun platoon. At the Stratford High School Instruction In machine-gunnery, Tiowls gunnery, and signalling will be given, in addition to rifle work. While employed In an engineering shop at Pahlatua last week, Mr. R. Martin had the joint of the big toe crushed when he dropped a heavy flywheel on Ills foot. He was removed to the Pahlatua Public Hospital, where ho Is reported to be making good progress.
