SOLDIERS’ HOSTEL
2 Good Work in Hard Times .* . - The report on the Wellington Hostel / for Returned Soldiers submitted at the annual meeting this week showed a net y loss of £OB4. This was attributed mainly to the increased rental. It was stated that ■7 the past year had made heavy inroads Into finances, and indications were that ■t there would be a still heavier drain in the , coming year. The hostel had supplied 'I. 13,202 beds and 30,786, meals at various rates, and 2036 beds and 6489 meals had been furnished free. An arrangement had 'been made for the hostel to supply meals and the Returned Soldiers’ Association to find beds for men when the hostel was :» overtaxed. The election for the board of control resulted ns follows: —Patroness. Mrs. T. H. Lowry; presidents, Mrs. E. J. Moore, ' Mesdames Radcliffe, Preston, J. Myers, Misses Bright, Kane, Warren, and • Fitchett; hon. secretary, Mrs. A. F. Foden; treasurer, Mr. T. R. Lear; bankers. National Bank of New _ Zealand ; auditors, Messrs. Clarke, Menzies, Griffin, and Ross. Mrs. R. W. Kane, Mrs. Urwin, Miss Madge McGregor, and Colonel H. B. Avery were appointed life members.
