LOADED PISTOL

Discovery by Police AUSTRALIAN FINED An Australian dirt-track rider, Lionel Van Praag, admitted in the Police Court yesterday being in unlawful possession of an automatic pistol and ammunition, and was fined £lO, the magistrate ordering the articles to be confiscated. Sub-Inspector Ward explained that the police, during the course of inquiries, came upon the loaded pistol in accused’s room in a local hotel. Accused had recently arrived from Australia. There was no reason why the weapon should have contained seven rounds of ammunition. Accused had stated that he was proceeding to Europe, and desired to take the pistol with him. “Do you make any money?” asked Mr. E. Page, S.M. Sub-Inspector Ward said that the accused had stated that he had £BO in his lodgings.
