Claim for Maintenance EX-PROFESSOR TO PAY Surety Ordered: £9 a Week The action In which Hinemoa Corelli Charlotte Richards, a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, claimed a separation order from her husband, David Richards, a retired university professor, and also maintenance and guardianship of the one-child of the marriage, was brought to a conclusion at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, when Mr. T. B. McNeil, S.M., held that the defendant had been guilty of persistent cruelty, and -that his wife had been justified in not going back ti. him.

The magistrate estimated the defendant’s income at £l4OO a year, and allowed the petitioner £9 a week maintenance, and £5O past maintenance, and allowed the child of the petitioner £1 a week maintenance and £5O for past maintenance. He also granted petitioner custody of the child, and ordered defendant to enter into a bond of £2OO In one surety with the Public Trustee to carry out the orders. Thirty guineas costs were allowed to petitioner’s solicitor. The first payment was ordered to be made at Wellington on Monday next. Mr. O. C. Mazengarb, who appeared for the defendant, intimated that an appeal might be forthcoming for a rehearing. Mr. G. G. Watson accepted judgment for the petitioner.
