EXCURSIONS TO SOUNDS
Tamahine to Make Trips Four week-end excursions at intervals of a fortnight will be run to the Marlborough Sounds bv the Union Company’s 2000-ton steamer Tamahine this season, the iirst beginning oh Saturday, February 7. Ine Tamahine will leave Wellington at 1.10 p.m., and after the run of an hour and three-quarters across Cook Strait, with the rest of the trip in perfectly smooth water, she should be at Pieton about 4.30 p.m. The evening will be devoted to dancing on the specious deck, the ship remaining alongside Picton wharf meanwhile. In the small hours of the morning she will leave Queen Charlotte Sound for the adjoining Pelorus Sound, dropping anchor before breakfast in Tennyson Inlet. The beauty of this part of the bounds, which are so out of the way as to be known locally as the “World s Und, had been very little know’n to New Zealanders generally until the Tamahine started making summer excursions there. The morning here is given over to boating, fishing, bathing, picnicking, cruising by launch, i and so on, with perhaps a short walk into the heart of the bush or to the saddle above Elaine Bay, with a fine view over Croisellcs Harbour and Pelorus Sound. Starting again after lunch, the Tamahine will make a deviation into Ships Cove, Captain Cook’s rendezvous, on the way back to Picton. where she will have another short stay before leaving at about 6 o’clock for home. Wellington will be reached about 9.30 p.m., in time for the lasrt trams.
