SUCCESSFUL PICNIC

Gas Company Employees

Over 800 people attended the annual pic-nic-of the Wellington Gas Company’s employees at Maidstone Park yesterday, when the weather, though far from being brilliantly fine, was yet good enough to allow of a comprehensive programme arranged by the various committees being carried out successfully. The company s band was in attendance, and during the afternoon played a number of selections, but the chief attraction was the programme of sports events. In addition to about fifteen races for adults, there were about 40 for children, who were supplied with various toys In the way of prizes, and who also made good use of the ice cream, fruit, and sweets provided. ’ .. Mbyte, 1; E. Glover. 2. 75 yards novelty race: J. liigby. 1; L. Smallbone. 2. Relay race: A. Eddy, V. Steel. L. Smallbone. M. O Reilly . 1. Tug-of-war: Clifton’s team (F. King, C. Petterson, P. Petterson. W. Brown. F. Paul, and H. Gibson), 1. Members of the Free Ambulance were in attendance at the picnic.
