ONE-SIDED GAME Doubles Final THE PRINCIPAL MATCHES Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, January 26. The semi-final match in the dbampionship doubles between Mesdanies Tiffen and Watkins (Hawke’s Bay), and Sit Francis Wemyss and Mrs. Tyers was very onesided. Mrs. Tiffen started scoring early, and reached four back in two turns. Sir Francis Wemyss scored to the sixth hoop in a couple of turns, but failed, Mrs. Tiffen arranged the balls for her partner at the side of the second hoop, and Sir Francis Wemyss tried for them but missed. Mrs. Watkins started and played a pretty break to the peg, sent the blue to the vicinity of the second hoop, and after wiring red and yellow at the peg, she returned to her partner, Sir Francis Wemyss failed lo roquet. Mrs. Tiffen rolled her ball to four back, but baulked with red near. Mrs. Tyers displaced It, but did not reap anv benefit from the situation. Next turn Sir Francis Wemyss made two; hoops, and that was the final score made by that side. Mrs. Tiffen made the rover hoop, hit in a long shot to red, and made an excellent split to black. The finish was brilliant.’ , _ . In the other semi-final H. Williams and Mrs Kibblewhite met Archdeacon Creed Meredith and Mrs. Jarvie. It was an even game until near the end, when Mrs. Kibblewhite made four back, but was unable to roquet the ball. Archdeacon Meredith took the lift and made eight hoops. Williams rested at one back for some time. Mrs. Jarvie reached the peg, meanwhile turning the point. Williams went boundary near red. Archdeacon Meredith hit double, played carefully, and they ran out the winners. Doubles Final. In the final of the championshkip doubles between Mesdanies Tiffen and Watkins and Archdeacon Meredith and Mrs. Jarvie, black and yellow were equal with 9 points, red and blue on first hoop, at the end of forty minutes’ play. Mrs. Tiffen failed at the first hoop. Archdeacon Meredith hit in and scored only 2. Mrs. Watkins missed. Archdclcon Meredith made 4 and then Mrs. Tiffen’s chance came. She made a break of 12, wired at the peg, and laid a drive for her partner lit No. 4 corner. Archdeacon Meredith took the lift from B baulk and missed. Mrs. Watkins played superbly, made three hoops and pegged. Englishman of Long Shots. Tiie final of the open championship was played between H. Williams (Sumner) and Sir Francis Wemyss (England). Williams won the first game oy 14. He made a break of 10, peeling ills opponent at the penultimate. Sir Francis Wemyss gained no advantage from the lift, failing with a ball at the hoop, out. In the second game Williams played brilliantly. He soon readied four back with black, and next turn made to four back with blue, peeling black during a break of ! thirteen points. After peeling black at tour back he, in error, playedwith black and went to the peg with it. Neither competitor noticed the error. Tiie next turn he pegged out. winning by 20. The second game lasted forty minutes. Sir Francis Wemyss was oft his long shots. In the handicap singles between S. McCullough and Mrs. Jarvie there was an exciting finish. Mrs. Jarvie had 19 points to McCullough’s nil. Mrs. Jarvie baulked at three hack and her opponent played a round to the rover, and pegged her out. Next turn he went round again, and won a hard game by three points.
