GLIDING AT MANAWATU

First Machine Ready

■ Palmerston North, December 12. The Manawatu Gliding Club’s first machine has been completed, and will be, it is hoped, tested over the week-end on Mr. J. Linklater's property at Mllson. The completed glider, which is of the Northrop type, weighs 1701 b., and has a wing span of 34ft. Each-wing is sft. 6in. wide, and weighs 371 b., or lib. per square foot of fabric. There are 32 supports in .the wings which are . further strengthened by crosspieces, while the undercarriage is 18ft. 6in. in length. , , The total cost of the glider was £23, and the construction occupied over two months. The finishing touches are now being applied, and as soon as the machine has' been successfully tested training 'operations will commence Immediately.
