FISHING METHODS
A Practice to be Stopped A recommendation by the Palmerston North sub-committee that the only lead allowed to be used in the Palmerston North district be not more than three BB shot for worm fishing was adopted by the council of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society last evening. “It is a common practice with a number of so-called fishermen to use a big weight and heave the line out by hand and also to draw it in the same manner,” stated the secretary of the Palmerston North sub-committee., “We have come to the decision that the practice is nothing more than legalised noaching. We feel that allowing only. BB shot to be used a proper rod and line will have to be used. We contend that fie rod will have to be-held and the fish struck when a bite is felt. The fish would not have time’to swallow the hook and in many cases they could be returned to the water and so a lot of small fish could be saved from destruction.” On the motion of Mr. A. Seed it was decided that the rangers be instructed to take proceedings against anyone using a set line or rod in the manner described by the Palmerston sub-com-mittee.
