BOY KNOCKED DOWN

Accident at Heretaunga Knocked down at Heretaunga a few days ago by a motor-car driven by Mr. A. S. Haines, a nine-year-old boy named Woon, who resides at Trentham, narrowly escaped, serious injury. When near the Heretaunga Post Office, opposite Golf Road, Mr. Haines saw a motor-lorry, which had been coming toward him, stop. He himself was travelling about 25 miles an hour, and when he was passing the stationary lorry, a boy ran out from behind it and made ■to run across the street toward Golf Road. The boy had almost cleared the front of the motor-car before Mr. Haines had time to pull up, and he was struck by the left front mudguard and knocked down clear of the wheels. On examining the boy Mr. • Haines found he had suffered bruises on both legs, but otherwise did not seem much hurt. He took the boy to his home at Trentham. Eye-witnesses of the accident state that Mr. Haines could not possibly have avoided the accident.
