TROUT FISHING
Season Opens Well
SEVERAL FINE CATCHES
Official reports to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle, of trout catches at Lakes Rotorua, Taupo and. Tarawera at the start of the season show that, good sport has been en_joyetl by anglers and that there is an abundance of fish of an average weight of SJ, 6. 7J, 8 and 841 b. The conservator of fish and game at Rotorua. Mr. A. Kean, has sent several glowing accounts to the Minister of the sport which fishermen had at the commencement of the season. The conservator states the season opened in dull Weather suitable for fishing, and consequently large bags of well-conditioned fish were taken. Parties landing 27, 53, 60, 67 and up to 92 trout in a day seemed to be common, and anglers remarked on all sides on the splendid condition of the fish.
At Taupo one or two fish netting 1211 b. have been landed, while a 14Jpounder was taken at Motuopa. Fishing in the Tongariro River has been good and also at Aiotutere and Jellicoe Points and at Acacia Bay. Ngongotaha Stream, Okareka, Tarawera and Rerewhakaitu Lakes have also proved good fishing grounds. “The pleasing feature,” states the conservator. “is that all the fish taken are in fine condition, and this testimony, is made by anglers. Generally speaking. I think the season promises well.”
