TEACHERS’ LEAVE
“Too Much Granted” CONCERN EXPRESSED By Telegraph—Pr°se Association. Christchurch, November 21. Concern at the amount of sick and general leave granted to school teachers throughout the Dominion was expressed at to-day’s meeting of the Canterbury Education Board, and a committee was appointed to find out the cost to the country of sick leave last year. One member said that Wellington was the worst district, and Canterbury came sixth. Another said that the curricula were being loaded up more and more, and many of the troubles giving rise to leave were nerve troubles. Statistics of sick leave and special leave granted over recent periods to teachers throughout the Dominion have been compiled by the Education Department. and set out graphically and otherwise. The statistics have been sent recently to the Wellington Education Board and will be considered at the board’s next meeting. • These are the statistics which led to discussion at the meeting of the Canterbury Board.
