Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., has resumed his duties on the bench at Palmerston North after his indisposition. A substantial cheque from Mr. A. F. Stacey was received by the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr. J. K. Archer) on Tuesday (reports the “Press”). It represented the commission received by Mr. Stacey from the sale of the property in Cathedral Square acquired by the City Council, for the purposes of n women’s rest room. One-half of the amount is to be allocated to the unemployment fund, and the other half to the mayor’s coal and blanket fund.
