WANTED—A RAILWAY
SOUTH WESTLAND REQUEST. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hokitika, January 31. The Hon. W. A. Veitch, Minister of Labour, arrived last evening. He was interviewed by a deputation appointed from a public meeting held on the previous evening to convey a motion carried urging the re-enactment of the authorisation of the South Westland railway below Ross. The Mayor', the county chairman, and the Hon. H. L. Michael, spoke in support of the railway. The Minister agreed to convey the representations to the Prime Minister. Mr. Veitch indicated his personal opinion. Knowing the district as he did. he strongly approved of the proposal. He left this morning to visit South Westland. Mr. James O’Brien. M.P., is accompanying the Minister, who will return here on Monday, and proceed to Christchurch on Tuesday.
