LICENSE SUSPENDED FOR TWELVE MONTHS
“You are not fit to drive a car,” said Mr. I. Salek, J.P., in the Magistrates Court on Thursday, when, with Mr. 19. Keir J P., who was also on the Bench, ho fined Horace Robinson, a seedsman, aged 32 £2O, and also suspended his license for twelve months, on a charge of being drunk while in charge of a motor-car on Christmas Eve. Mr Salek said that the case was a serious one, and it was a question whether instead of a fine being imposed lie should not send the accused to gaol. Senior-Sergeant AVard, who prosecuted, told the Court that the accused was so drunk in charge of his car that had ip been out on the street he wouldJnidoubtedlv have been arrested. Between b and 9 o’clock on Christmas Eve he Avas sitting in his car in Wilson Street, the car standing in the middle of the road AVithout any lights on. Some civilians pushed the car to the side of the street and switched on the lights, after which the police saw the defendant. ' va ? still sitting in the car. On the lehicle being searched there W ? S full bottle of wine and a bottle of Aibishy from which about two cupfuls had been removed. Robinson was a single man who had never previously been before the C °Accused said that ho knew, he w.as intoxicated, and his intention m going to Wilson Street was to leave the car there. “Couldn’t you leave me my license, said the defendant after the Bench ( had inflicted the penalty mentioned. My business is dependent upon it. “You should have thought about that before,” replied Mr.' Salek. “You are not fit to drive a car.”
