A start is to be made almost immediately with the pouring of the concrete deck on the first section of the new bridge over the Waimakariri, the construction of four of the 29 spans that will carry the bridge being sufficiently advanced for this operation to be .done. Altogether, about 66 piles, which will take 11 piers, have been driven, and seven of the concrete niece hays been buijt.
