NEW YEAR’S DAY EXCURSION TO PICTON
TKIP BY THE AVAHINE. The big “ferry” steamer Wahinc will make an excursion from AAellliigton to Picton on New Year’s Day. Leaving AAcllington a“ 8 o’clock in tbe morning, and running across the open water in the Strait in about an hour and a half, she should be at Picton well before eleven o’clock. Over three hours will be spent by the steamer in the little Marlborough-port, so that people who want a run to Blenheim and back in the special tram arranged bv the Kailway Department in connection ‘with the excursion will have plenty of time for it. Others will no doubt prefer to spend the time in watching the rowing regatta, which will be in progress at Picton, in making launch * trips about Queen Charlotte Sound, or in picnicking and seeing some of the beauties in the neighbourhood of the town. The AVahine will leave on return about two o’clock in the afternoon, arriving at AA’ellington about half past five.
