ACTING-PRINCIPAL APPOINTED. The Board of Governors of Scots College has’ decided to make a temporary appointment to the principalship of the college for the early part of next year in order to have sufficient time to make a permanent appointment. Steps will be taken shortly after the holidays in this direction, but it is not anticipated that the new appointee will be available before the second term of 1930. In the meantime, the appointment of Mr. Thomas D. Pearce, M.A. (Hons.), as actingprincipial is announced. Mr. Pearce is relinquishing, at the end o£ this year, the principalship of the Southland Boys’ High School, Invereargill, which post he has occupied for tlie last twenty-six years. During this long appointment he has held the position with much distinction, and the Board of Governors of Scots College is fortunate in being able to secure his assistance for the opening of next year. Mr. Pearce is particularly well known in the South Island, having received his education at the- Otago Boys’ High School (dux 1887) and the Otago University, where he obtained his M.A. degree with first class honours in languages. He has held the appointment as English master at Nelson College and the Otago Boys’ High School prior to his taking up his present position as rector of the Invercargill Boys’ High School. Besides his educational gifts Mr. Pearce is' a man of strong character, a firm disciplinarian, and one who takes an interest in the affairs of the community whenever a suitable opportunity presents itself.
