SPEEDWAY THRILLS
TO-NIGHT’S BIG MEETING. Cinder-shifting of the most spectacular order and broadsiding at its best should be seen at the Kilbirnie Stadium Speedway to-night, when noted overseas champions are to be in action. The visitors include Lionel van Praag and Charle Spinks, two riders who have performed with great distinction on Australian tracks, Spinks having also competed on various “dirt tracks” in England. It was only a few weeks ago that van Praag set up a record in Sydney. Spinks is also a maker of records. Both are very spectacular riders, as also are Arthur Mann and Syd. Perkins, also from Australia. The two latter are credited with notable performances, and promise to play a very prominent part in to-night’s meeting, at which one of the principal events will be the golden helmet contest. All the Australians nre challenging the present holder of the helmet, Wally Kilmister, the Wellington champion and record holder. The talent at this meeting will be easily the best ever seen here. Further particulars regarding the meeting are published elsewhere in this issue.
